This afternoon, I was waiting quietly for the Goldfinches to settle back on the feeders, when suddenly the entire flock of 10-15 flushed and departed the vicinity. I thought it might be something I did, some subtle movement, but I was also pretty sure I was standing perfectly still. Because there was no longer any need for stealth, I strolled up to the tree, and guess who was hanging out just above the feeders? I should have known. He didn't seem perturbed by my hasty arrival or our close proximity at all. We watched each other for a good two minutes before he nonchalantly plucked a suet ball out of the tray feeder and took off like he owned the place. What an absolute character.
