Black-Chinned Hummingbird

We had a visitor from Mexico today. Yup, that's a Black-Chinned Hummingbird. These little guys migrate north in the spring to breed, then head back to Mexico in the fall to winter over (sounds like a good plan to me). They're considered somewhat rare in our area, but their overall numbers are on the rise, which is great news.

You may wonder why he's looking so scruffy. This image was captured during a short break in what was an all-day-and-night rainstorm. He was soaking wet and a little disheveled. I'm hoping he comes back when the weather is a bit more accommodating for both of us.

We're excited to add the Black-Chinned Hummingbird to our yard list!
