Male (L) and Female Lesser Goldfinches

Some cat lovers will dispute the numbers, but the evidence is fairly conclusive that free-roaming domestic cats kill over one billion songbirds per year in the U.S. That's a staggering number. It seems that keeping cats indoors is the best thing for both cats and birds.

This evening, this male/female pair of goldfinches were watching over one another as they drank from the fountain. First the female would drink while the male stood guard, then the male would drink while the female stood guard. It was very sweet.
